Carolyn Bason Long Merit Scholarship Fund

The following biography was written at the time of this scholarship establishment; some information may not be up to date:

Carolyn Bason Long, a native of Yanceyville, North Carolina, graduated from Woman’s College (now UNC Greensboro) in 1943 with a bachelor’s degree in secretarial administration. During college, Mrs. Long was on the dean’s list and active on campus. Following graduation, she joined the staff of United States Senator Clyde Huey of North Carolina and later worked on the staff of Senator Sam J. Ervin, Jr. In 1968, she married Senator Russell B. Long of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, who passed away in 2003. Mrs. Long has a large extended family to whom she is devoted. Her sister, Dorothy Bason Burke, also graduated from Woman’s College in 1947. Mrs. Long lived in Washington, D.C.
