Calvin A. Michaels Scholarship Fund
The following biography was written at the time of this scholarship establishment; some information may not be up to date:
Calvin A. Michaels was born in Surry County, NC, served in the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII, and graduated from Elon College with a degree in business administration. Following graduation from Elon he began to work for Burlington Industries, continuing with Burlington for 35 years until he retired in 1989 as director of personnel administration. A long-term program instructor and member of the Board of Trustees of the American Compensation Association (now known as World At Work), he was the recipient of ACA’s first Keystone Award, and he also was named a Distinguished Alumnus of Elon College.
Education was a priority to Calvin. As the father of six children, he expected them to also value a college eduction. All four of his daughters graduated from UNC Greensboro, and one of his sons earned two graduated degrees at UNCG, thus the University has been an important influence on his family and the community in which they lived. This scholarship was established in his memory to support the goal of earning a college degree and to continue the University’s and the UNCG Bryan School’s contribution to the quality of life in North Carolina.
