Bridgett Wilson Ridge Scholarship Fund
The following biography was written at the time of this scholarship establishment; some information may not be up to date:
Bridgett Wilson Ridge graduated cum laude from UNC Greensboro’s School of Nursing in May 1979. She was a member of Sigma Theta Tau, Inc., the International Honor Society of Nursing, and was an outstanding student in the School of Nursing.
Mrs. Ridge was employed at Wesley Long Community Hospital for six years, until late 1985. She was informed in November of 1985 that she required a liver transplant. She received a new liver on December 31, 1985, and was hospitalized for five months during this phase of her illness. Mrs. Ridge had suffered non-specific liver disease for more than eight years prior to liver failure and subsequent transplantation. She lived with the disease approximately one-third of her young life. Bridgett Wilson Ridge, age 30, died May 4, 1987, from an overwhelming infection that often afflicts immunosuppressed persons.
