Blanche Rigsby Shore Scholarship in Nursing
The following biography was written at the time of this scholarship establishment; some information may not be up to date:
Mrs. Blanche Rigsby Shore was born in Dayton, Tennessee on Feb 10, 1909. She obtained her diploma in nursing from Bowling Green Hospital in Kentucky where she met and married HB Shore on Dec 22, 1934. The couple lived in Louisville until 1953 when they — with their children, Pat and Henry — moved to East Bend in Yadkin County, where Mr. Shore had been reared. Mrs. Shore began working in Yadkin County’s new community hospital, in a shared position, and continued to work in the nursing profession throughout her life. She had 2 grandchildren, Michael and Jennifer Shore.
Patricia (Pat) Shore Clark, a native of Kentucky, completed her degree in business/secretarial administration at Woman’s College (now UNC Greensboro). Following graduation, she pursued a career in Washington Capitol Hill on the staff of Senator Sam J. Ervin, Jr. where she became chief of staff. After Ervin’s retirement from the Senate, she became director of the NC Washington Office during the first Hunt Administration. She returned to NC in 1985 and worked for RJ Reynolds in governmental relations. Pat has served UNCG as a member of the Board of Trustees, the UNCG Excellence Foundation, the Alumni Board, and as co-chair for her class’s 50th anniversary. She received the UNCG Alumni Distinguished Service Award. At the time of this scholarship establishment, Patricia lives in Winston Salem and enjoys travel and volunteer opportunities. Her husband, Jim Clark, passed away in 2002.
Blanche Rigsby Shore died in 2003.
