Audrey J. Cheek Scholarship Endowment Fund

Audrey J. Cheek, a native of Baltimore, Maryland, majored in chemistry at Woman’s College (now UNC Greensboro). Following graduation, she worked as an industrial chemist for several companies. In 1960, she began teaching chemistry in the Baltimore Public Schools at Dulaney High School. After 31 years with the Baltimore schools, where she served as the first female high school principal, she retired from Lansdowne High School in 1991. In recognition of her outstanding attributes as a teacher, she was awarded the James Bryant Conant Award from the American Chemical Society. Outside of the schoolhouse, her avocations were opera, Shakespeare, traveling, stamp collecting, and cats. Ms. Cheek died on December 6, 2002.
