The following biography was written at the time of this scholarship establishment; some information may not be up to date:

Amanda Joyce Patton (1956-96) graduated cum laude from UNCG in 1978 with a bachelor’s degree in interior design. She was active in the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) and gained notice as a young designer for having a highly sophisticated sense of style and design. Her early work included numerous residences and furniture showrooms in High Point and Hickory, North Carolina. The body of her later work was primarily corporate interiors for companies such as RJR and Sara Lee.

A woman of uncommon goodness and graciousness, Amanda possessed an inner courage that gave comfort and hope to other cancer victims. The Amanda Joyce Patton Endowment was created by her friends and family as a memorial to honor and celebrate her life and the kind, quiet, gentle spirit with which she touched the lives of all she knew.
