Allen W. Trelease Graduate Fellowship
The following biography was written at the time of this scholarship establishment; some information may not be up to date:
Dr. Trelease came to the University as a professor of history in 1967 and served as head of the department from 1984-1992. He retired from full-time teaching in 1994. During his more than two decades of service, he was responsible for significant growth of the history department. His books include “White Terror: The Ku Klux Klan Conspiracy and Southern Reconstruction;” “The North Carolina Railroad, 1849-1871, and the Modernization of North Carolina;” “Changing Assignments, a Pictorial History of the University of North Carolina Greensboro;” and “Making North Carolina Literate: the University of North Carolina at Greensboro from Normal School to Metropolitan University.”
Dr. Allen Trelease passed away July 15, 2011.
