The late Mrs. Audrey Ratchford Wagner of Charlotte, North Carolina was an alumna of the North Carolina College for Women (now UNCG) where she received a bachelor of arts degree in 1925. After graduate studies at the University of Chicago and at Scarritt College in Nashville, Tennessee, she returned to North Carolina to teach, mainly in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School system. Overall, she taught school for 32 years before retiring. She was a native of Gastonia.

She established this fund in memory of her mother, Alice McArver Ratchford.
